Easy White Orchid Table Centerpiece

Project Inspiration

As winter lingers and spring feels just out of reach, I wanted to bring a little seasonal transition into our home with a fresh, elegant floral display. Orchids are perfect for this—they're timeless, luxurious, and surprisingly affordable when you know where to look. I headed to Trader Joe's and picked up three beautiful white orchids for just $14.99 each. The result? A stunning, high-end centerpiece that feels like it came straight from a florist.

Supplies List & Cost Breakdown

For this simple early spring DIY, I purchased…

  • 3 white orchids from Trader Joe's - $14.99/each, so $44.97

  • Large decorative bowl from West Elm (similar from Amazon here) - $78

  • Optional: twine, floral wire, or bamboo stakes for extra support

Total Supplies Cost = $122.97

I also used some moss that I already had from a previous project (I always have a bag of this on-hand!) and my trusty hot glue gun.

The Secret

The key to transforming simple grocery store flowers into a showstopping centerpiece is to think beyond traditional flower pots. I've used everything from vintage wine buckets to oversized serving bowls for my floral arrangements, and they always get compliments! In this case, a sleek, neutral West Elm bowl elevated the orchids and made the arrangement look like it came from a high-end florist. It's a simple switch that adds instant sophistication.

Step-By-Step Instructions

1. Prep the Bowl: Choose a large, sturdy bowl—anything except a typical flower pot! Clean and dry it thoroughly.

2. Arrange the Orchids: Remove the orchids from their plastic containers and gently break up the roots. Arrange them in the bowl so they face different directions, creating a full, lush look.

3. Add the Moss: Fill the gaps between the orchid roots with moss. Tuck it in firmly to cover the soil and give the arrangement a polished, finished appearance.

4. Add Finishing Touches: Use twine, floral wire, or bamboo stakes to support taller stems and add visual interest if needed. I personally hot glued some of the moss onto the support sticks that came with my orchids to disguise them a bit and add more texture and greenery.

The Final Result

The finished centerpiece is fresh, elegant, and perfect for this transitional season. Placed in the center of our dining table, it brightens the entire room and feels like a professional floral design—but without the professional price tag. Plus, I love that this simple DIY reminds me how easy it can be to bring beauty into your home with just a little creativity and a trip to Trader Joe's.

Give this trick a try with your next floral arrangement—you might be surprised how much impact a non-traditional container can make!
